Sheridan Cowboy Classic Results – Sheridan, WY – February 18, 2024
Twenty-two players from four states competed in the Sheridan Cowboy Classic Handball Tournament. Frenchtown native John Chapman, now of Greeley, Colorado doubled up by winning both the Open Singles and Doubles titles.
Chapman teamed with Butte’s Marcus Madrazo to win the doubles crown. Chapman defeated Butte’s Sam Sottosanti in the singles final. Chapman and Madrazo beat the Billings team of Spencer Larsen and Chris Graham in the doubles final.
Lander’s Ken Scott defeated Butte’s Don Foley to win the Masters title and Sheridan’s Jay Stender defeated Billings’ Mike Meyer in the Grand Masters final.

Sam Sottosanti III captured the Open Singles Championship in the 38th Annual Bill Ryan and Al Bersanti Memorial Handball Tournament at the Elks on Sunday. Sottosanti, of Butte, defeated Pocatello’s Carson Taysom 21-12, 12-21, 11-9 in a thrilling final. Sottosanti defeated Sand Point’s Chris Tico in one semifinal. Taysom defeated ten-time tournament champion Brett Badovinac in the other semifinal. It is Sottosanti’s first Ryan/Bersanti title.
Billings’ Mike Meyer captured the Super Golden Masters for players 60 and over. He defeated East Helena’s John Larson in the final 21-11, 21-12.
Pocatello’s Carson Taysom and Manny Mendoza defeated Mike Meyer and Don Foley 21-8, 21-20 to capture the first ever doubles title in the Ryan/Bersanti tournament.

December 3, 2022 – Ryan/Bersanti Memorial
Brett Badovinac won his eighth consecutive and tenth overall title in the Bill Ryan and Al Bersanti Memorial Handball Tournament at the Elks on Saturday. Badovinac defeated Sam Sottosanti 21-9, 21-18 in the final. Earlier in the day Sottosanti defeated Chris Tico of Sand Point, Idaho 21-14, 21-19 in the semifinals. Tico has won numerous age group national championships and played some on the pro tour. Badovinac defeated Marcus Madrazo in the other semifinal.
East Helena’s John Larson won the Super Golden Masters division by going 3-0 in the round robin format.

February 6, 2022 – Ryan/Bersanti Memorial
Brett Badovinac captured his seventh consecutive Open Division title in the Bill Ryan and Al Bersanti Memorial Handball tournament over the weekend at the Elks. Badovinac defeated Bozeman’s Evin Groves 21-14, 21-5 in the final. It is his ninth title in the tournament.
Mike Hitchcock defended his title in the Super Golden Masters Division for players 60 and over. He defeated Rick Edwards of Belgrade by injury default in the final.
Missoula’s Henry O’Brien defeated Marcus Madrazo 21-15, 21-12 to win the A Division.
Twenty-two players competed in the tournament, which hadn’t been held since December 2019 due to COVID.
